- Headache: Migraine
- SYMPTOMS for Classical Migraine type headache may include visual disturbance
- such as flashing lights a half hour or more prior to the headache. The pain
- is aching or throbbing in time with the pulse and is often on one side of
- the head. There is often nausea and vomiting. With the Common Migraine there
- is usually no visual disturbances prior to the headache and the pain is most
- often on both sides of the head instead of just one side.
- CAUSES. Heredity may be a partial cause since about 75 percent of victims of
- migraine headaches have family histories of the headaches. The headaches are
- much more common in women than men.
- TREATMENT. Drugs prescribed to prevent or reduce the frequency of headaches.
- .Biofeedback techniques may be used to prevent the occurrence.
- .Consulting with a nutritionist may be helpful.
- .Avoiding certain foods such as aged or strong cheese, chicken livers,
- pickled herring, canned figs and alcohol, which act on blood vessels may
- be helpful. Blood vessels are a major factor of migraine headaches.
